Internships


Internships help history majors gain hands-on experience in the workplace, making them more attractive job candidates after graduation. Our history degree students have interned at such local historical agencies such as:

  • Adelmann Regional History Collection
  • First Division Museum at Cantigny
  • Gaylord Building Historic Site
  • Joliet Area History Museum
  • Naper Settlement
  • Will County Historic Preservation Department
  • Will County Historical Society
  • And more!

Adelmann Regional History Collection

Henry Gilson
Adelmann Regional History Collection

  • Coordinated community outreach initiatives by distributing and retrieving promotional materials for cultural events.
     
  • Digitized historical documents and archival materials in response to research and public access requests. 

  • Developed and maintained organized digital collections to support long-term preservation and academic use. 

  • Processed incoming donations of historical materials, assisting in their evaluation and integration into the collection. 

Morgan served as the student coordinator (2022-2023) for the “Reclaiming the Narrative” grant from the Gaylord and Dorothy Donnelley Foundation. She plans on graduating in Fall 2023 and attending graduate school to study the History of the Middle East.

  • Scanned historical photographs and documents showcasing the construction and architectural renovations of the Gaylord Building over time. 
  • Helped catalog these records for public access on the Gaylord Building’s website. 

2023

Lockport Woman's Club Internship

  • Scanned 35mm film negatives of Joliet and the region
  • Digitized content and created metadata that makes the images searchable online

Jacob is working on his undergraduate degree and is majoring in History and Secondary Education and minoring in Economics. He plans to teach high school history.
